Intense Pulsed Light and Diamond Microdermabrasions combined
with a good skin care program are designed to manage
problems associated with pigmentation and the buildup of
dead skin. These problems are mostly confined to the
epidermis but when we need to address problems associated
with wrinkling, acne scar formation, skin laxity and sagging
we need to
markedly
induce new collagen or remodel collagen in the dermis.
The Dermis is the deeper layer of the skin and contains
blood vessels, hair follicles, sweat glands and the oil
glands. Traditionally, the treatments for significant
sagging, laxity, wrinkles and acne scarring have been

The wavelengths of Intense Pulsed Light are absorbed best in
pigment and not water. The Dermis is 70% water, held
there by collagen and hyaluronic acid. Longer
wavelengths than the Visible Wavelengths of IPL are better
absorbed by water as the chart below shows. If we can
heat up the water, we can damage/denature the collagen and
induce new/remodeled collagen and wrinkles, scars and
sagging are diminished. The "Pixel " laser is an Erbium
Laser which is highly absorbed in water as shown in the
diagram. Since the 2960 wavelength is highly absorbed in
water, we are able to use much less power = much less/no
pain!! and get the same result. The first device of this
type was the "Fraxel" laser which uses a shorter wavelength
and is not as well absorbed in water and requires more power
= more pain.
The "Pixel " Laser creates microcolums of full thickness
injury surrounded by normal skin which then helps heal the
damaged areas. Only 20% of the skin is damaged with
each pulse of the laser. The face, neck, hands any part of
the body can be treated.
During a standard treatment session we would make two low
power passes
over the entire face in opposite directions. This
would insure uniform
treatment to the face for texture purposes. We would
then stack pulses of the laser over problem areas such as
wrinkles around the eye, upper lip, chin and any scars.
You can even treat the delicate skin above and below the
eye.

After the procedure there will be some redness and sunburn
feeling for a few days and some swelling around the eye. The
Pixel pattern diminishes but will be slightly visible until
flaking begins. By the third day, the redness will be mostly
gone and by the fourth day you will begin to flake off the
dead epidermal cells. By the 6th or 7th day, the skin
will be smooth and look much healthier. The collagen
remodeling occurs over several months so there will be
progressive improvement in wrinkling and scars. For
scaring associated with acne 5-6 treatments are needed but
most wrinkles would respond to 3 or 4 treatments spaced 3-4
weeks apart.
The treatment Session will consist of the following:
1. Harmony Skin Tightening (Deep Dermal Heating) using
Infrared for Neck and Jowls
2. Full Face "Pixel", 2 passes with stacking on problem
areas.
3. Javani Deep Moisturizing
4. A Diamond Microdermabrasion with Javani on Post Procedure
Day 6 or 7.
