Dr. Loretta Ehrlund
and Bubba!!

SuperSlow Client Dr. Loretta Ehrlund,
DVM and Aggie Mom, continues to amaze us with her animal
adventures. This time she was asked to examine
and recommend treatment for a 450lb Siberian White Tiger!
Dr. Ehrlund's Story!
"This is Bubba, a white Siberian male 6 yr
old tiger. He has difficulty getting up though he is happy
and can get around. So I brought him in and x-rayed him. He
has severe degenerative joint disease in both hips, worse on
the right. You might think of it as advanced arthritis.
We sedated him with a shot and it took six
of us to lift him on our table.
The paw was as big as some of our faces!!!

We installed an IV cephalic catheter (size 14ga) for a
patent venous pathway and to allow us to control anesthesia.
The monitor on his tongue measures the oxygenation of the
blood.
Blood and urine (by cystocentesis) were
collected for laboratory analysis.

I also examined his ears with the video otoscope and
examined his mouth and teeth.
The blood work turned out to be totally normal. Except
for the hip problem, Bubba is in
good health and will live out his life at
the Wild Animal Orphanage, on Leslie Road, San Antonio.
