This was a great achievement for Amanda
and I and all her friends at Inside Outside congratulate
her!
Amanda tells us about the adventure...
"There were about 154 participants for this competition (the
largest show held in Texas). I competed in the Figure
Classes. The Figure Class is basically bodybuilding but
maintaining a feminine physique.
Each participant is required to come out on stage with your
class, stand in a line and perform and hold certain poses
for as longs as it takes for the judges to decide which
participants should place 1st-5th. The judges are looking
for a great physique, definition, symmetry, how your carry
yourself….just the overall look and poise of the contestant.
In the Masters class, we had to hold the poses so long that
one girl passed out and they had to call EMS. Imagine
tighten your entire body really tightly so that everyone can
see the work that you have done on your muscles and while
holding that, smiling, and standing in four inch heels for
10-15 minutes. It’s not as easy as some make it look.
However, I placed 2nd in the Masters Figure Class (40years
old +). (Supposedly there were two women in that group that
had been in Shape and /or Oxygen Magazines before….I haven’t
verified that yet!) I also place 2nd in the Novice Figure
Class (Beginners). The exciting thing about 2nd place here
was that most of the females were in their 20’s, so 2nd
place was a great finish for me. This was my first
competition ever. I may do the Alamo Show Down in October.
I’ll let you know if I decide to do it!
My diet changed almost weekly when preparing for this
competition. I slowly cut out certain foods—like foods
higher in fat or sugars or carbs. The few weeks before the
contest my daily food intake looked like this:
Breakfast
4 egg whites with a little garlic for seasoning,
small amount of olive oil to cover pan (no olive oil the
last 2 weeks before contest) plus ¼ cup raw organic rolled
oats micro waved for a minute with one scoop of protein
mixed in
Snack
Protein Shake plus small amount of almonds (no almonds 2
weeks before contest)
Lunch
Chicken or fish
Dark Leaf Lettuce or spinach with Organic apple cider
vinegar (for dressing)
½ cup brown rice or ½ sweet potatoes (3 days before the
contest no carbs for lunch anymore!!!)
Vegetable-Broccoli, asparagus or cucumber
Snack
Protein Shake
½ grapefruit (only fruit choice month from competition)
Dinner
Chicken/ Fish/Lean Round Steak (Steak only once a week)
Veggies or salad
Snack
Sometimes, I had a Protein shake before bed at night
Drink One Gallon of water a day, then two gallons a day the
week of the competition
I also took some supplements to help with muscle growth, fat
burners, calcium, and a multi-vitamin.
No salt, no pepper, no oil, no butter, no condiments, only
whole or live foods
I trained one or two body parts a day, resting every third
day. I did no cardio up until approx. five weeks out because
I was loosing too much weight too quickly! Then, I did 20
minutes of cardio three to five times a week.
I had more energy than I’ve ever had in my life up until the
time I started carb depletion (three days before the
contest). It was all a wonderful and positive experience and
I’m glad I did it."
